Physical Geography
St. John's landscape is compiled of small hills and mountain trails around the city and several cliffs off the coast. Outside of the heavily populated city, there are quite a few ponds and small lakes neighboring the outskirts of the other cities near St. John's, such as Paddy's Pond which is southeast of Conception Bay South, NF and Petty Harbor Long Pond which is south of St. John's. Most of St. John's rocky and hilly landscape is because it' s in the Appalachian Mountain region.

The climate in St. John's ranges from around 20 degrees in the summer and around -1 in the winter, sometimes dropping to -20 due to the windchill. The city also has a maritime temperate climate, latitude at 47'37 N, longitude at 52'44 W, and elevation at 141 m. Recently there have been no records of any severe weather condition. Because of the many small ponds near St. John's and it being next to the Atlantic ocean, fog and slightly strong winds are common from time to time.
