Economic Activities
Most of the jobs in St. John's are mostly service-based that deal in retail trade and other services, along with manufacturing-based jobs coming second with construction and food processing, and finally the resource-based jobs like agriculture and foresting. The total labor force is 97,930 and the amount of men and women working in the retail trade jobs are a total of 12,230 people and 12,920 working in Health ans social assistance. The jobs in St. John's that are resource-based involve mining for coal, oil, metal, and etc and the jobs that are service-based are clothes stores, car dealers, and etc. In the manufacturing division, St. John's construction division deals with preparing annual Capital Works project proposals and money estimates for the city. They also supervise, inspect, and administrate the activities related to the work projects. The city mostly profits from it's petroleum industry and has become a leader in ocean technology. The fact that there aren't too many resource jobs in St. John's makes it somewhat sustainable because then they aren't consuming more than is needed, but with all the service jobs taking up lots of space and the manufacturing factories causing pollution, St. John's could keep on trying to make life there more sustainable.
